And So It Begins: Our Big World Adventure. First Stop: New Zealand!

We’ve said goodbye to the comforts of home, packed everything we need onto our bikes, and booked a one-way ticket to the other side of the world.

After months of planning and replanning, countless lists, gear checks, and endless dreaming, the moment is finally here: we’re hitting the road, and not just any road!

On the 15th of May and for the next 6 months we’re starting our big journey through New Zealand on a bycicle.

What’s the plan?

Simple(ish): cycle from the North Island all the way to the bottom of the South Island—(easy, no?)

No car, no train, no shortcuts—just us, our bikes, our strong legs (hopefully), probably many many snacks, and the open road.

We want to experience New Zealand, not just pass through it. Mountains, beaches, forests, villages… feel every climb, smell the ocean breeze (and the sheep—can’t avoid that), and experience firsthand the local culture.

It’s about being in the landscape, not just looking at it.

Why We’re Doing This?

This trip isn’t just about cycling, it’s about fulfilling a dream.

In addition, it’s about curiosity. About finding out what happens when we trade routine for uncertainty, when we choose new experiences over convenience, when we decide to embrace every struggle and build strength out of it.

It’s about exploring New Zealand not as tourists, but as travelers—pedaling through it one km at a time. We’re chasing freedom, challenge, and real connections—with the places we visit and the people we meet along the way.

Life feels different when everything you need fits on your bike, and the next breathtaking view is just one hill away (okay, maybe ten hills).

What can you expect here?

We’ll be posting our stories from the road—some beautiful, some chaotic, probably a few where we wonder why we thought this was a good idea.

Expect:

    • Our favorite spots, route updates (and some questionable route decisions)

    • Wild campsites and rainy-day meltdowns

    • The people we meet, unexpected kindness from strangers, strangers that become friends

    • Gear fails, snack overloads, unique photos

    • …and all the little surprises that come along the way

This Journey is just the beginning

We don’t know exactly where this journey will take us. But we do know it starts with two loaded bikes, four pumped tires, our legs ready for action, and a whole lot of excitement and curiosity.

Let the ride begin!
